1. On your toes to adjust to the flight of the ball.

2. Decision. Do I stay or do I go for it?

3. Attack the ball with a positive attitude. No room for hesitation.

4. Jump using the leg nearest to the goal, bringing the other one up as protection.

5. Use the ‘W’ hands technique for ball away from body

6. Always keep your eyes on the ball.

We encourage you to try to catch the ball wherever possible as we really dislike keepers that insist on punching or slapping the ball away. During our sessions we’ll always ask “Can you catch it?”. We want to build your confidence at a skill that’s seldom used in youth football. Catching a cross is a truly wonderful feeling when under pressure, it’s often better and more important than a spectacular diving save!
